Phenyx Pro PTU-6000-8H
The
only reason I am including gear on these pages is
because the gear that I am including works really well
and has helped me solve problems. The PTU-6000-8H has
saved us from running 200 extra feet of cable every
gig. I was introduced to this little piece of kit at a
festival. The guy running sound also handles sound at
a few of the casinos here. In fact, we had used these
same mics at a number of gigs and didn't know it.
After I got set up he said he wanted to show me
something. He pointed to the PTU-6000-8H and said that
we needed to get one of these. My immediate response
was that I couldn't afford that kind of stuff. Then he
told me the price - about $550 for the eight mic unit
(they also make two and four mic units)... with the
mics! Also, you can add the four antenna extension
(which you need for a rack mount unit) for about $50.
Are these world class mics? No, but they're very good.
The first thing that you have to keep in mind is that
the Shure patent on the SM58 ran out in 1986. So, yep,
these are basically SM58 clones. They're UHF in the
500MHz range so you don't have to worry about
everyone's phones screwing things up. In addition, you
can scan for open frequencies when you set up and then
set the mics using IR.
